Joe Cooper and Jayke Charlesworth are the North Devon winners, well done everyone who took part.
North Devon Tennis Tournament
Ilfracombe Academy justified their position as one of the strongest tennis schools in the area with a fantastic showing in the North Devon Schools doubles competition.
We entered a record amount of pairs and all of them had a 50% win rate or higher after all the group games had been played. We had 4 teams reached the semi-final stage,
3 out of the 4 semi-finalists in the Yr7/8 contest were from Ilfracombe Academy and Finn King Smith and Ewen Berry made the semi-finals in the Yr9/10 side of the draw.
All students performed really well, especially Will Sprigg who had never played a full competitive tennis match before. Will McDonald and Patrick Howard gave a great account of themselves and had some big wins in the group stages. We did bring home some silverware as Joe Cooper and Jayke Charlesworth won the Yr. 7/8 championship in commanding fashion, they fought off a comeback from a Park schools pairing to win the title. It’s the third time in a row an Ilfracombe Academy pairing has won the Yr7/8 championship.
Roll on the summer term when we will be back on court looking to hand out a few more defeats to those who stand in our way!
